Pressed cane is a natural cane that has been woven in mats in a factory. The mat cane is then pressed into a machined groove around the periphery of the seat and held in place with a wooden spline that is glued in place.
The mat cane is typically light in color, though there is some variation in the color. The cane may be stained if a darker color is desired. It must be noted that natural cane ages and will get brittle and begin to fail in a decade or two, how rapidly this happens appears to be a function of the climate and humidity the cane is exposed to.
Examples of pressed caned items are displayed under the Pressed/Examples link from the left menu.
